In 1999, Tom Dubbert opened the doors to RDS Automotive Service as a single-bay shop. For 26 years, he built a business on honesty, quality, and a true sense of family. In April 2026, Tom passed the torch to the team he trusts most: Paul O’Brien, Matt DeFoor, and Julia “Buddy” Reynolds. The heart of RDS remains the same. The passion is only growing.

A New Chapter at RDS

On April 23, 2026, Matt and Paul became 50/50 owners. Tom’s last day in the shop was April 4, 2026. He is now enjoying well-earned time with his family and grandchildren. Matt and Paul have been part of the RDS family for years. Together with Julia “Buddy” Reynolds, they are carrying the RDS legacy forward while making thoughtful improvements, including extended hours, a refreshed shop aesthetic, and even better service for our customers. All while staying true to the commission-free, customer-first values that have defined RDS Automotive Service since 1999.

Paul O’Brien – Foreman & Co-Owner
After a career as a paramedic in Lumpkin and Forsyth counties, he changed paths to pursue a better work-life balance. Paul first worked at Decatur Automotive before joining the team at RDS. As an ASE-Certified Master Technician with deep expertise in Toyota and Asian-import vehicles, Paul has been a cornerstone of the shop for 23 years.

Matt DeFoor – Service Manager & Co-Owner
Proud Marine, former WMS Analyst, and performance car enthusiast. Matt rebuilt an award-winning 1980 Datsun 280ZX during the 2000’s, and is currently restoring a 1996 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo for drag & drive competition. As co-owner and service manager, he brings incredible attention to detail and a passion for cars to every customer interaction.

Julia “Buddy” Reynolds – GM & ASE-Certified Technician
Before becoming an automotive mechanic in 2020, Julia had a career as a professional ballet dancer. She began her automotive career at Ford before coming to RDS for a two-year apprenticeship under Paul O’Brien. Specializing in Ford and Asian-import vehicles, she brings precision and dedication to every repair while assisting with daily operations alongside Paul and Matt.

Tom Dubbert – Founder Opened RDS in 1999 after working at Beaudry Ford, Wade Ford, and Hull’s Auto Service. Built the shop from one bay into the trusted business it is today alongside his wife Martha.
